Weekly Update: Base Training

Another successful week of training done and dusted!

The focus for last week was on ‘base training’ where I was looking to do back to back 90+km rides.

After Simonsberg last weekend, I took a few day’s rest and got back on the wagon closer to the weekend where I had a solid 2h15 interval session consisting of Hill Attacks and Sprints to wake up the legs before the weekend of KM’s began…

Saturday was a longer MTB ride where we rode out with the Cycle Teknix Social Cycling Club for a chilled loop around DuynefonteinΒ before setting off into the trails of Durbanville for some climbing and a bit of technical training which resulted in a 3h45 ride.

Sunday, we decided to go ‘road’ and rode the Cape Town Cycle Tour route around Constantia, Fish Hoek, over Chappies and back down via Camps Bay and through the Waterfront which resulted in a windy, soaking wet 4h20 ride.

The legs and body felt great, which I’m really feeling positive about leading into the next big race which will be the Cape Town Cycle Tour MTB Challenge in March!

The plan for the next few weeks will be to focus on interval training and possibly one longer endurance ride over the weekends.
